What is Collaborative Law

Collaborative family law enables clients going through separation or divorce to achieve settlement without going to court. The aim of collaborative family law is to resolve disputes in a respectful and dignified way, for the benefit of the family as a whole.

Each party is represented by his or her own solicitor who will provide guidance and advice. The family solicitors and their clients agree in writing to reach a settlement without court involvement. They agree to work together in four way face to face meetings to resolve children and financial issues arising from the separation. The focus in the collaborative law process is on the needs and interests of the whole family.

Relationship breakdown inevitably involves financial and emotional costs. The benefits of collaborative law help minimise those costs and ensure that the couple remain in control of the process.
